Springfield, Mass. - The Mercyhurst Men's Ice Hockey team hit the road for a matchup with the AIC Yellow Jackets. The Yellow Jackets scored three times in the third period in a 4-1 win over the Lakers.
How it Happened
The Lakers took a penalty halfway through the first period that put the Yellow Jackets on the power play. After a few scoring chances by the Yellow Jackets were stymied by Owen Say, the Lakers were able to kill off the man advantage and get back to full strength. Late in the period, it was the Lakers turn to go on the power play. The Yellow Jackets penalty kill did its job and got back to full strength. After one period of play, the game was tied at zero.
Within the first two minutes of the second period, the Yellow Jackets went on the power play again. A couple of saves by Owen Say and a block by Adrien Bisson got the Lakers back to full strength. At 9:16 in the period, the Lakers had a great scoring chance, but Nils Wallstrom made a beautiful save for the Yellow Jackets. After going almost two full periods without a goal from either side, at the 19:10 mark of the period, Grayson Deitrich gave the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead.
Early in the third period, the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 2-0, courtesy of a Hunter Longhi goal. Back-to-back goals by Austen Long extended the Yellow Jacket lead to 4-0. Just a few minutes later, the Lakers got on the board. It was Keanan Stewart who got the Lakers on the board at the 8:19 mark of the third period. The Yellow Jackets held that 4-1 lead the rest of the period and walked away with a 4-1 win in game one.

Keanan Stewart scored his ninth goal of the season. Stewart has now scored in back-to-back games.
Garrett Dahm collected his 16th assist of the season.
Mickey Burns collected his 12th assist of the season.
Owen Say finished with 36 saves, including 17 in the first period.
Adrien Bisson led the team in blocked shots with three.
