Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team picked up a tie against the Bentley Falcons on Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. The Lakers twice overcame deficits to force overtime, but Bentley prevailed in the shootout to take the win.
How It Happened:
Bentley opened the scoring at 6:45 of the first period, with Sam Duerr capitalizing on a setup from Jimmy Doyle and Nik Armstrong-Kingkade. Mercyhurst responded early in the second period when Steven Agriogianis netted his third goal of the season at 5:13, assisted by Ryan Coughlin and Sean James. The Falcons regained the lead at 18:16 of the second, with Tucker Hodgson scoring off assists from Armstrong-Kingkade and Ethan Leyh.
In the third period, the Lakers tied the game again when Riley Fitzgerald scored his sixth goal of the season at 14:16, assisted by Mickey Burns and Dustin Geregach. Both teams had opportunities in overtime, but neither could find the game-winner, sending the contest to a shootout.
In the shootout, Bentley's Ryan Mansfield and A.J. Hodges converted their attempts, while the Lakers were unable to score.
