Chicago, Ill. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team faced off against Chicago State on Friday evening, falling in straight sets (21-25, 24-26, 17-25) at the Emil and Patricia A. Jones Convocation Center. Despite competitive play in the first two sets, the Lakers couldn't secure a win, dropping to 3-18 overall and 2-9 in NEC play. Chicago State improved to 14-9 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
How It Happened:
The Lakers put up a strong effort in the first set, highlighted by key kills from Paige Miller and Andrea Zaric. Mercyhurst managed to keep the set close, but Chicago State capitalized on timely plays to win 25-21.
In the second set, Mercyhurst showed resilience, battling back and forth with the Cougars in a set that featured multiple ties and lead changes. Kaitlin Murphy and Trinity Tatupu contributed crucial points, but Chicago State edged out the set 26-24 after a late surge.
Chicago State controlled the third set, holding Mercyhurst to a .105 hitting percentage. Despite efforts from Kaitlin Murphy and Alyssa Krause, who led the team with 17 assists, the Cougars secured the match with a 25-17 victory.
