Volleyball Completes Two-Game Sweep Against Le Moyne

ERIE, Pa. — Mercyhurst (7-11, 3-3 NEC) defeated Le Moyne (0-17, 0-6 NEC) 3-1 on Saturday. The Lakers dropped the opening set 23-25 before taking the next three 25-14, 25-22 and 25-15.

The Lakers pushed the opening set to a two-point finish, but Le Moyne came away with a 25-23 win. The Lakers built much of their scoring from the service line with seven aces and added eight kills, both ahead of Le Moyne's totals in the set. Le Moyne answered with six aces and three blocks, giving Mercyhurst pressure to handle at the net and in serve receive. The Lakers finished the set with six attack errors and two service errors as Le Moyne held on for the 1-0 match lead.

The Lakers took the second set 25-14, pairing 13 kills with six blocks and two service aces while committing only two attack errors and no service errors. The Lakers kept Le Moyne to four kills and no aces in the set, with the visitors also giving away four points on service errors. The blocking production gave the Lakers repeated points at the net, and their clean serving helped maintain pressure through the frame.

The Lakers won the third set 25-22, using production at the net and from the service line to get through a close frame. The Lakers totaled 12 kills with one attacking error, while adding three aces and four blocks. Le Moyne finished with 14 kills and two blocks, but Mercyhurst's points from aces and blocking helped offset that attack. The set ended with the Lakers ahead by three, giving the home side the 25-22 result.

The Lakers closed the fourth set with a 25-15 win over Le Moyne, using advantages in serving and net play to create separation. The Lakers totaled five aces and three blocks in the set, while Le Moyne finished with one ace and no blocks. The Lakers also held a 9-7 edge in kills, with both teams committing three attack errors, and finished the frame without allowing Le Moyne to push the set past 15 points.

Madison Miner led the Lakers with 11 kills while hitting .455 and added one ace and two total blocks. Alyssa Krause finished with 22 assists and eight service aces. Erin Robbins posted seven kills, two aces and five total blocks. Julia Shepherd added seven kills on .353 hitting and recorded five total blocks.

The Lakers return home when they face Central Connecticut State on Friday, Oct. 23. Coverage is set to begin at 6 p.m.
