Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team put up a valiant effort but ultimately fell to LIU in four sets (25-23, 22-25, 14-25, 20-25) at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers started strong by taking the first set but couldn't maintain the momentum, dropping to 3-17 overall and 2-8 in NEC play. LIU improved to 11-15 overall and 7-3 in the conference with the win.
How It Happened:
The first set saw the Lakers come out with energy, hitting .225% as a team and narrowly edging out LIU 25-23. Trinity Tatupu led the offensive charge, posting five kills in the opening set, while Paige Miller and Andrea Zaric added critical points.
LIU bounced back in the second set, winning 25-22, with Camelia Melendez leading the way with a match-high 18 kills on .348 hitting. Mercyhurst struggled in the third set, hitting just .027%, as LIU took control and secured a dominant 25-14 victory. In the fourth set, the Lakers fought hard to stay in the game, with contributions from Kaitlin Murphy and Alia Mastromatteo, but LIU held on to close out the match 25-20.
