Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Volleyball team earned a five-set victory over Le Moyne (20-25, 25-23, 28-26, 13-25, 15-12) on Friday evening at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. The win improves the Lakers' record to 4-19 overall and 3-10 in NEC play, while Le Moyne drops to 4-21 overall and 3-10 in the conference.
How It Happened:
Le Moyne came out strong in the first set, hitting an impressive .444% as a team and taking the set 25-20. Mercyhurst responded in the second set, led by the offensive efforts of Andrea Zaric and Kaitlin Murphy. The Lakers tied the match with a narrow 25-23 victory.
The third set proved to be a marathon, with both teams trading points late. Mercyhurst ultimately prevailed 28-26 behind clutch kills from Paige Miller and Trinity Tatupu. Le Moyne regained momentum in the fourth set, dominating 25-13 to force a decisive fifth set.
In the final frame, the Lakers held their nerve. Kaitlin Murphy delivered critical points, and Alia Mastromatteo set up the attack with precision. Mercyhurst sealed the victory with a 15-12 win.
