Niagara Falls, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team fell 5-3 to Niagara in an Atlantic Hockey showdown on Friday night. Despite a resilient effort and goals from three different players, the Lakers couldn't overcome Niagara's offensive surge.
How It Happened:
Niagara struck early in the first period with Trevor Hoskin finding the back of the net just 57 seconds into the game. The Lakers answered back at 17:41 with a goal by Connor Pelc, assisted by Mickey Burns and Brendan Lamb, leveling the score at 1-1 going into the first intermission.
The Purple Eagles took control in the second period, scoring twice. Tyler Wallace gave Niagara a 2-1 lead at 11:52, and Nathan Oickle added an unassisted goal at 13:56, extending their lead to 3-1.
In the third period, Barrett Brooks brought Mercyhurst back within one, scoring at 2:42. However, Niagara quickly responded with goals from Glebs Prohorenkovs and Lars Rodne, pushing their lead to 5-2. The Lakers fought back with a short-handed goal from Ryan Coughlin at 8:21, but they couldn't close the gap as Niagara held on for the win.
