Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team claimed a 4-3 overtime victory over Niagara on Saturday night at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. With a thrilling power-play goal by Boris Skalos, the Lakers improved to 2-7-0 on the season and 2-3-0 in Atlantic Hockey play, while Niagara fell to 4-3-2 overall and 3-1-1 in conference action.
How It Happened:
Mercyhurst struck first early in the opening period, with Steven Agriogianis scoring at 1:39, assisted by Mickey Burns and Connor Pelc. Niagara responded at 18:02 when Shane Ott scored to even the game at 1-1 heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Niagara took a 2-1 lead as Lars Rodne scored at 3:15. However, the Lakers fought back, with Jaryd Sych tying the game at 2-2 at 14:10, assisted by Brendan Lamb and Dustin Geregach.
Mercyhurst regained the lead in the third period when Steven Agriogianis notched his second goal of the night on the power play at 3:21, assisted by Dustin Geregach and Caleb Price. Niagara, however, leveled the game once again at 14:18, with Noah Hackett scoring to send the contest into overtime.
In the extra frame, Mercyhurst capitalized on a power play as Boris Skalos netted the game-winner at 1:49, assisted by Trent Sambrook and Sean James, securing the 4-3 victory for the Lakers.
