Erie, PA - Mercyhurst University is proud to host the 2nd Annual Lax for Life event on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Mercyhurst University Athletic Fields. The event, which brings together lacrosse teams from around the region, aims to raise awareness about the life saving impact of organ donation through competitive games and community engagement.
 
Founded by former Mercyhurst lacrosse player and heart transplant recipient Ryan Scoble, Lax for Life has quickly become a platform for spreading awareness about the importance of organ donation. Scoble's journey from being diagnosed with heart failure to receiving a life-saving heart transplant, and eventually returning to the field, is an inspiring testament to the power of organ donation. His experience drives the foundation's mission to encourage others to consider giving the gift of life.
 
This year's event promises to be even bigger, featuring 9 NCAA men's lacrosse programs and 5 NCAA women's programs from around the region, including Mercyhurst, Akron, Canisius, and many others. Games will begin at 9:00 a.m. and run throughout the day, with all proceeds going to CORE (Center for Organ Recovery & Education), an organization that works with hospitals to coordinate organ recovery and transplantation.

Together, we aim to educate our community and inspire individuals on the life-changing impacts of organ donation," said Ryan Scoble, founder of Lax for Life. "Every game played represents hope for those in need of a second chance, and we are grateful for the continued support from the Mercyhurst community."
 
The event will also feature a special presentation at 1:10 p.m. to honor organ donors and recipients, highlighting the profound impact organ donation can have on individuals and families. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about organ donation, and there will be booths set up for anyone interested in registering as a donor.
