Fairfield, CT- Mercyhurst Field Hockey fell to NEC opponent Fairfield University today by a score of 9-1.
How it Happened
Fairfield struck first, netting three goals in the opening quarter, making the score 3-0 going into the second. Mercyhurst's defense worked hard to contain Fairfield's attacks in the second quarter, with four key saves by goalie Kayla Desormeau and left the quarter scoreless. The score remained 3-0 with the Stags leading into the half. Fairfield found the net three more times in the third quarter, making the score 6-0. The Lakers responded with grit, scoring late in the third. The goal was scored by junior Marina Evert on a breakaway, making that her first goal of the season. This made the score 6-1 going into the final quarter. Fairfield continued to add to their tally as they scored three more times, defeating the Lakers by a score of 9-1. Along with Marina Evert, sophomore Catherine Hudak had one shot in the third quarter. Senior Kayla Desormeau totaled 14 saves on the day.
