North Easton, MA- Mercyhurst Field Hockey fell to NEC opponent Stonehill College today by a score of 3-0.
How it Happened
The Lakers were faced with a tough matchup right away as Stonehill scored two goals in the first quarter, while Mercyhurst had two saves. Despite having an impressive five saves in the second quarter, the Skyhawks scored once more, adding to their lead and making the score 3-0 going into the half. Things started to heat up for the Lakers in the third quarter as they had four shots on goal. Two shots came from sophomore Rachel Kosowski, while senior Elizabeth Jackson and junior Marina Evert each had one shot. Not only were the Lakers adding pressure offensively, but they also held Stonehill scoreless and had one save, keeping the score 3-0 going into the game's final quarter. The fourth quarter brought similar results, as Mercyhurst racked up six more saves and held Stonehill to another scoreless quarter. Despite a valiant effort, the Lakers could not find the back of the net as they ultimately fell to the Skyhawks by a final score of 3-0. Senior goalie Kayla Desormeau had 13 saves on the day and junior Jen Kemp had one defensive save.Â
