Columbus, Ohio – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team dropped a tough 5-1 decision to No. 2 Ohio State on Tuesday evening.
How It Happened:
Ohio State got on the board early in the first period, with Jenna Buglioni scoring at 4:56 to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes extended their lead at 8:49 when Jocelyn Amos netted a goal assisted by Emily Zumwinkle and Emma Peschel, making it 2-0 after the first period.
In the second period, Ohio State continued their momentum with a goal from Joy Dunne at 3:31, assisted by Jordyn Petrie, pushing the lead to 3-0. Petrie added a goal of her own at 17:43, giving the Buckeyes a commanding 4-0 lead. Mercyhurst responded less than a minute later when Thea Johansson scored her fifth goal of the season at 18:16, assisted by Mary Sweetapple and Vanessa Upson, cutting the deficit to 4-1 heading into the final period.
Ohio State sealed the win with a late goal in the third period from Maddi Wheeler at 15:20, assisted by Sara Swiderski and Emma Peschel, making it 5-1.
