Lakers Top Lindenwood With Third Period Rally

McKay, Pedersen, and Javier Net Goals in the Win

St. Charles, Mo. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Women's Ice Hockey team staged an impressive third-period comeback to defeat Lindenwood 3-1 on Friday evening at the Centene Community Ice Center. The win boosts the Lakers to 3-6-1 on the season and 1-0-0 in conference play. 

How It Happened: 

Lindenwood struck first late in the opening period when Morgan Neitzke scored at 19:42, assisted by Sydney Rarick and Quinn McLaren, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead heading into intermission. 

The game remained scoreless through the second period as both teams battled defensively. The Lakers, however, found their rhythm in the third period. Megan McKay tied the game with a power-play goal at 7:44, assisted by Thea Johansson and Julia Schalin

Just minutes later, Sydney Pedersen gave Mercyhurst the lead with an unassisted goal at 12:38, marking her first goal of the season. With Lindenwood pressing in the final minutes, Makayla Javier sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 18:41, also her first of the season. 

Notable Performances: 

  • Megan McKay scored her second goal of the season on the power play. 

  • Julia Schalin recorded her first career point with an assist. 

  • Sydney Pedersen notched the game-winning goal, her first of the season.

The Lakers will complete their weekend series against Lindenwood tomorrow afternoon, with puck drop set for 12:30 PM CT.
