Schenectady, N.Y. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team fell to Union 6-2 in a non-conference game at Messa Rink. Despite early momentum with a power-play goal from Will Margel, Union surged ahead, putting six goals on the board in the win.
How It Happened:
Mercyhurst got on the board early in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead at 1:25 with Will Margel scoring a power-play goal, assisted by Dustin Geregach and Caleb Price. Union responded late in the period, with Ben Muthersbaugh tying the game at 19:38. Just 13 seconds later, Muthersbaugh added another goal, giving Union a 2-1 lead heading into the first intermission.
In the second period, Parker Lindauer extended Union's lead to 3-1 with an even-strength goal at 8:35. Mercyhurst's Riley Fitzgerald answered back quickly with an unassisted goal at 9:28, cutting Union's lead to 3-2. However, Union regained control as Nate Hanley scored at 1:24 of the third period, followed by another goal from Hanley at 10:36 to make it 5-2. Muthersbaugh completed his hat trick at 11:30 to seal the victory for Union.
