Erie, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Lakers Men's Ice Hockey team dropped a tough 4-2 decision to RIT in their Atlantic Hockey Conference clash on Saturday afternoon at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Despite a pair of power-play goals from Will Margel and Mickey Burns, the Lakers couldn't overcome RIT's offensive push.
How It Happened:
RIT opened the scoring at 9:42 of the first period when Simon Isabelle found the back of the net to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. Mercyhurst responded quickly on the power play, as Will Margel scored his first goal of the season at 10:53, assisted by Dustin Geregach and Caleb Price, tying the game at 1-1.
The Tigers regained the lead at 12:16 of the first period, as Philippe Jacques scored to make it 2-1 heading into the first intermission.
RIT extended their lead to 3-1 late in the second period, with Isabelle netting his second goal of the game at 15:34. Mercyhurst kept fighting, as Mickey Burns pulled the Lakers within one, scoring on the power play at 18:34 of the third period, assisted by Trent Sambrook and Boris Skalos.
Despite the late surge, RIT sealed the win with an empty-net goal by Tyler Fukakusa at 19:03, bringing the final score to 4-2 in favor of the Tigers.
