Erie, Pa. - The Lakers played their week four matchup against IUP at home Saturday afternoon with the Crimson Hawks getting the better of the matchup. Mercyhurst fought hard in hopes of coming out on top in front of their home crowd, but they were denied in the 30-13 defeat.
How it Happened
IUP came out as the aggressors as they put nine points up on the board in the opening period of play. A field goal to kick things off followed by a touchdown in the waning seconds allowed the Crimson Hawks to stake themselves to a lead going in the second.
Mercyhurst did manage to get on the board in the second with Adam Urena connecting with Ryan Davison. Mercyhurst was able to find their rhythm on offense, sustain an eleven-play, 75-yard drive that ate up nearly 10 minutes of clock that concluded with Urena putting the ball perfectly in his receiver's hands.
Despite some life from Mercyhurst, IUP extended their lead to nine in the period to take a 16-7 lead into the halftime break.
It was a quiet third quarter with only one touchdown in the frame as the Crimson Hawks continued to add on. After being shut out in the third, the Lakers went back to the Urena to Davison connection to get on the board as the tandem linked up for their second score of the game.
The two touchdowns were not enough, though, as IUP held onto the the win by a final of 30-13.
