Lock Haven, Pa. - Mercyhurst Women's Basketball claims one All-PSAC awards spot with Jayde Boyd finding her way onto the list. The Laker guard was awarded for her efforts over the 2022-23 season as she was named to the All-PSAC West Second Team, announced the conference Thursday afternoon.
Boyd comes off a season in which she shot 38.7% from the floor and 33.7% from deep while making 78.2% of her free throws. She averaged 11.1 points per game to come in second among the Lakers, just behind Grace Centrulla's 11.3. The native of Pittsburgh, Pa. proved to be more than just a scorer during the year as she averaged 4.2 rebounds per game for the second-best on the team.
"Jayde has made a tremendous impact on our team, helping us take yet another step forward as a program this year by helping us improve our overall win-loss record, as well as posting some big numbers in big games," Said Head Coach Brooklyn Kohlheim on the Second Team honoree.
The senior had some memorable performances during the season, scoring 20 or more points in four games over the year. She got the season started off with a bang as she had 22 points against Charleston in the season opener with five made triples in the contest. She scored 26 twice for a season-high with the first of those happening against Shepherd on a 9-17 shooting line while the second was against Clarion during the team's senior day where she was 9-18 from the floor, going a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line and adding in eight rebounds.
Boyd is no stranger to making an all-conference list as she was named to the All-PSAC West Second Team a season ago as well. For her Laker career, Boyd scored 847 points while adding 392 rebounds to her ledger. She averaged over 11 points in each of her three seasons in Erie, leading the team in her inaugural 2020-21 season when she scored 12.3 per game, making for a strong start to what would be a memorable Laker career.
"She is a gamer who doesn't back down from taking the shot or winning her matchup. She has helped us as a program this year in many ways and wish her luck as she pursues her MBA," said Kohlheim as she reflected on Boyd's time in a Laker uniform.
