ERIE, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Wrestling team is set to wrap up the regular season as they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for one last dual. On Friday, the No. 16 ranked Lakers take on the No. 9 Mountain Cats.
Last Time Out
The Laker grapplers were busy last weekend picking up two wins including an upset over No. 13 Millersville. On Friday night, Mercyhurst collected their eighth win of the season over Seton Hill by a score of 25-15. Two Lakers pinned their opponents in the first period propelling the team to the 10-point victory.
In the Saturday afternoon matchup against the Marauders,
Eric Bartos earned a 4-3 decision over the top-ranked wrestler at 133 lbs. The Valley City, Ohio native has had an outstanding season so far going 23-2 while picking up his 100
th career win becoming one of only 12 Lakers to do so. Bartos has also earned the title of PSAC Wrestler of the Week twice this season.
Scouting Pitt-Johnstown
UPJ sits at No. 9 in the NWCA rankings and has eight grapplers within the top-12 of their respective weight class. The Mountain Cats remain undefeated in duals this season going a perfect 14-0.
The Mountain Cats are atop the PSAC standing with a 6-0 conference record and have clinched at least a share of first place. Behind them are Gannon and Mercyhurst who both tout a conference record of 5-1.
Last season, UPJ took a 29-12 decision over Mercyhurst in the Mercyhurst Athletics Center.
Dillon Walker took a 17-10 decision over the Mountain Cat's Brock Biddle who was ranked No. 4 nationally. Biddle has been wrestling at 184 this season where he is ranked at No. 7 while Walker is currently ranked at No. 6 at 174. Bartos posted six points of the Lakers 12 points with a pin of Dajauhn Hertzog.
