Men’s Lacrosse Prepares for Wilmington

Erie, Pa. - After securing the win against #6 Wingate in their season opener, Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse goes back out on the road for their second game of the 2023 season as they are set to take on Wilmington tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

1. Going Hamm

Myles Hamm had an impressive first game of the season, earning him GMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week honors. The senior from Calgary Ab. scored five times against Wingate in the season opener to lead the team in goals in the 16-13 victory. Hamm scored twice in the opening period and followed that up with a trio of goals in the third as the Lakers had taken control to open the second half. He'll hope for similar success this time around as Mercyhurst looks for win number two.

2. Road Warriors

The Lakers hope to keep things rolling on the road after grabbing a win over a top-10 team in their season opener. Mercyhurst had success when away from their friendly confines a season ago as they were 4-3 in road contests. Three of those four wins came by double digits with their largest margin of victory being 20 when they defeated GMAC foe Alderson Broaddus 22-2.

3. Second Time's the Charm

Mercyhurst has found success in game number two of the season in recent history, winning the second matchup of the year in four of their last five seasons. Their best victories of that stretch have come in the last two years as they defeated Roberts Wesleyan 19-4 in 2021 and Lewis University 17-5 last year. The Lakers look to get off to a fast start here in 2023 and continue their winning ways.

4. Scouting Wilmington

Wilmington comes off a very successful campaign in which they went 11-4 overall and 6-0 in conference play while making it to the CACC Championships. The Wildcats come off of a tough loss at the hands of top-ranked Tampa as they fell 25-5 in their season opener. Despite the loss to begin the year, the Wildcats were able to grab a conference honor as Jacob Herman was named the CACC Player of the Week with a pair of goals and assists in the loss.

5. What's Next

The Lakers play their home opener of the 2023 season next week when they host Maryville on Saturday, March 4th. That is the first of seven straight home games for Mercyhurst as they do not go back out onto the road until April 15th when they see GMAC foe Seton Hill. The contest between the Lakers and Maryville is set to begin at 11:00 a.m.
