Erie, Pa. - Mercyhurst Football announces the newest batch of incoming Lakers on National Signing Day. The Lakers add 29 new names to their roster as the team prepares for the 2023 season.
"We are extremely excited to welcome our newest Lakers that we are announcing today. We were looking for culture shifters both on and off the field in this class," said Head Coach Ryan Riemedio. "The coaching staff has done a tremendous job recruiting prospective student-athletes and families that fit the university and our program's mold academically, athletically, and socially."
The group of newcomers includes 20 incoming freshmen along with nine transfers. The team heavily recruited within the tri-state area of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York with 15 coming from within that area while five of the newcomers hail from California.
"We were able to address positions of need with the departure of our senior class," said Riemedio when talking about the many different recruits being added to the family. "Our 2023-2024 class is spread amongst 10 states with the majority from our own backyard of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and New York but we also got into California, Delaware, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, Virginia, and West Virginia." Â
The team gains a lot of depth in both their wide receiver and tight end cores while bolstering their defensive secondary as both of those positions groups add six players to the fold. The offense continued to be a focal point throughout the recruitment process as the team added five offensive linemen as well.
