Lakers Wrap Up Weekend with Loss

Morgantown, WV. - Mercyhurst men's water polo finished out their weekend with a loss in the WWPA Conference Weekend, falling to McKendree 20-11 to move to 3-19 on the year.

How it Happened

McKendree cames out of the gates as the aggressors as they scored the first two goals of the game in the opening minute. The Lakers had a rebuttal as Nate Cheney and Keller Sens both scored to things up at 2-2. From there, the Bearcats began to build out their lead as they finished out the opening period of play ahead 5-2.

McKendree picked up where they left off in the second with them scoring five goals in the frame to take a 10-5 lead into the halftime break. Owen Hardner, Ben Gavran, and Teagan Thomas each found the back of the net for the Lakers to help them hang around and be down only five with 16 minutes left to go in the game.

The Bearcats started to take control in the third as they managed to outscore Mercyhurst 6-1 in the period. Owen Hardner was able to score his second goal of the game in the opening few minutes, but it did not proved the spark the Lakers were hoping for as they went into the final period of play down 16-6 before the 20-10 final.

Highlights

Owen Hardner led the way for the Lakers with five goals in the game with six different Lakers getting in on the action as well with one goal apiece. Asher Jones, Keller Sens, and Parker Wood each recorded on assist in the game to tie for the team lead.

Next Game

Mercyhurst returns home for their next game as they are scheduled to take on Penn State Behrend this upcoming Saturday, November 11th, inside the Hallman Aquatic Center at 6:00 p.m. with the team set to honor this year's senior class.
