Lakers Highly Advertised in Most Recent NCAA Poll

11/1/2023 2:25:00 PM

After being featured in the United Soccer Coaches Rankings a day ago, the Mercyhurst Women's Soccer Team is receiving some love in the most recent NCAA poll as well, coming in as the 3rd ranked team. The Atlantic Regional poll also features western conference foe, Gannon at number 6, along with Kutztown, West Chester, East Stroudsburg, and Bloomsburg from the East.

Entering their last match of regular season play, the Lakers remain the top dog in the PSAC West standings and have captured the PSAC West Crown. Having solidified home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs, the Lakers will now look to build momentum heading into the tournament.

Led by Karah Van Horn and Corinne Morgan, the Laker offense is one that is steady and versatile. In addition to the 51 combined points between Van Horn and Morgan, 14 other Lakers have found the back of the net at least once this season.

Rich Wall's group isn't just explosive offensively, but defensively as well. With opponents only converting 9 times in 17 games, the Lakers seems to fit the mold of the sports adage: "defense wins championships."

Entering the post season, the team will square off against Seton Hill University in the first round. The quarterfinal round is scheduled for Monday, November 6th. In their two meetings in the regular season, Mercyhurst left victorious.
