Men’s Water Polo Defeats Roos in Saturday Night Matchup

Erie, Pa. - In their second home game in as many days, the Lakers grabbed the win in front of their home crowd over Austin College. Mercyhurst used a solid fist half effort to help them go into the break ahead by three before grabbing the five-goal win, 11-6.

How it Happened

Teagan Thomas got the scoring started for the Lakers are he fired the opening salvo with just under four minutes to go in the game. Austin College responded just a few seconds later, showing they would not go away easily. Mercyhurst's Owen Hardner helped the Lakers create some distance between themselves and their counterparts as he scored a trio of goals with the final coming midway the second quarter.

Hardner kept things rolling in the third as he scored a fourth-straight goal for Mercyhurst to make it a 5-2 game. As the game went along, the scoring for both teams began to slow down as their defenses figured out the opposition. Mercyhurst still managed to maintain their lead thanks to goals from freshmen Keller Sens and Asher Jones in the late going.

Highlights

Owen Hardner led the way on the night with five goals to his line with four coming in a row at one point for the Lakers. Freshmen Keller Sens and Asher Jones both joined their teammate with multiple goals as they had two apiece. Tony Golin had a solid effort in the goal for the Lakers with 15 saves to his line while giving up only six goals, the fewest to this point in the season.

Next Game

The Lakers return to the pool for the third time in three days as they are set to make the short trip to Penn State Behrend Sunday as they are set to play the Lions at 12:00 p.m.
