Shippensburg, Pa. - Mercyhurst field hockey wrapped up the regular season Saturday afternoon with the team making the trip to see the Raiders. The Lakers were unable to come out on top and move to 2-14 in the 10-1 loss to Shippensburg.
How it Happened
The Raiders came out of the gates hot with them scoring five times in the opening frame. They managed to find the back of the cage for the first time just two minutes in while making it a multi-goal lead midway through the fourth minute. Shippensburg did not slow down from there, scoring two more times in a three minute span before wrapping up the opening frame with a goal in the 14th minute to make it 5-0.
Mercyhurst came out of the break and into the second period as the aggressors and managed to get on the board. It was Ellie Schau who was able to put a dent in the scoreboard for the Lakers as the junior took the feed from Maddie Huffer and made it a 5-1 game in the second minute of the frame. The remainder of the quarter was relatively quiet with Shippensburg scoring only once, doing so in the 19th minutes to take a 6-1 lead into the halftime break.
The second half was more of the same for the Raiders with them scoring twice in both the third and fourth quarter. Mercyhurst did all they could to try and keep pace with the counterparts as they had five shots in the second half, but none of them found the cage in the nine-goal loss.
