Volleyball Grounds Griffins in Four

Erie, Pa. - The Lakers got their third win at home this season Friday night as they were able to grab the victory over Seton Hill. The Griffins tried to play spoilers with a win in the third set, but were unsuccessful in the 3-1 final.

How it Happened

Mercyhurst was able to claim the edge in the opening set with them cracking double-digit points thanks to a Maggie Thomas kills to make it 10-7. The Lakers were able to keep their counterpart at arm's length the rest of the way in the opening set despite the Griffin's best efforts as completing the comeback in the 25-22 final.

The second set was a competitive one in the early going with neither team able to establish the advantage. Mercyhurst finally broke through, going on a 6-2 run to take a 16-11 lead, looking like they were going to cruise to a big win. Seton Hill had other ideas, though, with the Griffins eventually tying things up 17-17. Mercyhurst was able find their second win and go on a run late in the 25-19 win to go up 2-0.

Seton Hill managed to claim the third set thanks to a strong start in which they grew their lead to 10-5. Mercyhurst flipped the script in the final frame as they jumped out in front 9-3 before an eventual 18-11 lead while taking the 25-18 win to finish the match.
