The nationally ranked Mercyhurst Women's Soccer team completed another strong week this past weekend, extending their win streak to eight, and bringing their season record to 8-1. With their only loss coming to Walsh University, who is also having a very strong season, the Lakers get set for another two games as they host California University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday, October 3rd, and travel to Clarion University on Saturday, October 7th.
The Mercyhurst defense continues to be a force. Tallying their seventh shutout of the season this past Saturday, the Lakers continue to post strong defensive performances game in and game out. In addition to the consistent play of Maddie Elbro and Taryn Baxter, other players have stepped up for the Lakers as Emily Ehrman and Safia Paraiso got the nod defensively in the win over UPJ and performed well for the squad.
The Laker offensive production remains sound as well. Despite only beating Edinboro 1-0, four different players scored in the victory over UPJ. The offense is led by Veteran Karah Van Horn, and Freshman Corinne Morgan, both of which can quicky fill up the stat sheet on any given night.
Cal U is currently 2-5-2 on the season, most recently tying Slippery Rock. They field a young group and feature Katey Bern who was one of only three freshmen on an All-PSAC West Team last season. In 2022, Mercyhurst swept their series with Cal U, winning both matchups 2-0.
On Saturday, the Lakers travel to Clarion, PA to take on Clarion University. The Golden Eagles also post a record of 2-5-2 on the year. Mercyhurst took care of business in their first meeting with Clarion, winning 5-0, as five different players scored goals.
Tuesday's home game is slated for 1:30 PM, and Saturday's kick off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
