Women's Hockey Looks for Bounce Back Performance Against #9 Cornell

Erie, Pa. - The Mercyhurst Women's Ice Hockey team returns to the Mercyhurst Ice Center for a weekend series with #9 Cornell. The Lakers are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and get back to their winning ways. A win over a ranked top 10 team can be a launching pad for the rest of the season.  

History Lesson 

Cornell swept the Lakers in a weekend series a season ago in Ithaca, NY, winning 3-0 and 7-2 in both games. Scoring for the Lakers in the second game was Sydney Pedersen and Kylee Mahoney.  

Flashback 

The Lakers were on the road this past weekend as they traveled to #3 Colgate for a weekend series against the Raiders. The first game saw the Raiders win 7-0. Ena Nystrom finished the game with saves, before she was relieved by Erika Lind who finished with 23 saves. Sofia Ljung blocked three shots in the loss. The Lakers dropped game two 5-1.  The lone goal for the Lakers was scored by Sara Boucher while Sofia Nuutinen and Sydney Pedersen added assists. Ena Nystrom finished the game with 38 saves. Six different Lakers recorded a block in the game.  

Stats Leaders 

Thea Johansson leads the Lakers in points with seven and is tied for the team lead in goals with four. Marielle Parks is tied for the team lead in goals with four as well. Sara Boucher is second on the team in points with six and is tied for the team lead in assists with four. Sydney Pedersen is also tied for the team lead in assists with four. Pedersen also leads the Lakers in blocked shots with 22. Ena Nystrom is 3-5 with a .908 save percentage, 2.91 goals allowed average, and 216 saves.      

A Look at the Opponent 

#9 Cornell is currently 2-0 on the season with a series sweep over #15 Penn State. They outscored Penn State 9-3 in the two games against the Nittany Lions. Izzy Daniel leads the Big Red in assists with five and points with six. Lily Delianedis and Katie Chan are tied for the team lead in goals with two. Annelies Bergmann is 2-0 with a .914 save percentage, 1.50 goals allowed average, and 32 saves.   

Familiar Territory 

This weekend starts a four-game homestand for the Lakers as they host Cornell for a weekend series, followed by Robert Morris the following weekend to start CHA play. The Lakers are 3-1 at home this year with a sweep of Post and a series split with #13 St. Cloud. They are outscoring their opponents 9-1 in their home games this year, while averaging 39.75 shots on goal in those games. 

Puck drop for Friday's game is set for 6 PM, followed by a 2 PM puck drop on Saturday.
