Field Hockey Battles Conditions Against Bloomsburg

Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Field Hockey team fell to Bloomsburg on wet fall day in Erie by a score of 3-0.

How it Happened

In the first quarter there wasn't much action as the two teams battled the elements after a three-hour delay to allow the field to drain. Mercyhurst generated the only shot of the first and it went wide. There were also no corners in the opening 15 minutes.

The second quarter saw more back and forth play as the Lakers generated two shots and Bloomsburg tallied four. Just under three minutes into the frame the Huskies scored to make it 1-0. Kayla Desormeau made two saves in the second while the Lakers and Huskies combined for three penalty corners.

After a brief halftime, the two team took the drenched field. Bloomsburg scored their second goal of the game at the 7:21 mark. Four minutes later Bloom earned a penalty stroke goal and converted on it to make it 3-0.

In the fourth neither team could find the back of the net as the Lakers tallied two shots to six from the Huskies. One shot from the Lakers found the keeper while Desormeau turned away the four shots that were sent he way.

By the Numbers

The Lakers generated six shots, two on net, Desormeau turned away 11 shots on goal. Her total is now 60 saves this season which among nation leaders in Division II.
