Fourth Quarter Comeback Comes Up Short for Field Hockey

Frostburg, M.D.—The Mercyhurst Field Hockey team went back on the road after having two games at home, the Lakers fell to Frostburg State by a score of 2-1.

How it Happened

The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter as they scored just over two minutes into the game.

Frostburg doubled their lead just under 11 minutes later as they beat Kayla Desormeau, that would be the last time the Lakers netminder was beat.

In the second quarter, Desormeau continued to be tested but turned away all five shots that were sent her way. At the half the Lakers trailed 2-0 and were outshot 10-2.

The third quarter saw neither team tallying a shot on goal but Mercyhurst drew three corners compared to just one from Frostburg.

The Lakers struck in the fourth quarter to cut the Bobcat lead in half. Just over three minutes into the final frame of regulation Mercyhurst freshman Emerson Polkowski scored her first collegiate goal.

Despite the early fourth quarter goal and two shots in the frame the Lakers could not complete the comeback.

By the Numbers

Polkowski became the second Laker this season to score her first goal of her collegiate career joining Elizabeth Jackson who scored against Franklin Pierce. In every game of her sophomore season, Desormeau has made five or more saves, she has a .795 save percentage this season. Her 33 saves is also the most in the PSAC.

Up Next

The Lakers are back on the road on Wednesday as they face Mansfield before coming home next Saturday for senior day against Converse.
