ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Tennis team will begin their 2022 postseason journey tomorrow when they take on the Millersville Marauders in the semifinal round of the PSAC Tournament. The Lakers check in as the tournament's No.2 seed while Millersville holds the No.3 seed.
Laker Overview
The Lakers are coming off a 7-0 win in a tune up match against West Virginia Wesleyan this Monday. The team has claimed wins in two of their last three matches.
Hristo Plasheski and
Morris Haab each picked up three wins in the last three Laker dual meets at their No.5 and No.6 singles positions.
Scouting Millersville
The Marauders enter the postseason with a 9-7 overall record with a 4-2 mark in PSAC play. Their No.1 doubles pair of Frank Yanni and Carlos Martinez are currently ranked 33rd in the ITA national rankings with a 17-2 record. The one previous matchup that the Lakers and Marauders had earlier this season which resulted in a 5-2 Laker win.
Latest ITA & Atlantic Region Rankings
Mercyhurst stayed in the 69th position in the weekly ITA rankings, the team found themselves moved all the way up to the fourth position in the Atlantic Regional Rankings with Charleston, Edinboro, and Bluefield State ahead of the Lakers in the standings. A win tomorrow will help the Lakers chances of maintaining the fourth and final bid to the Atlantic Regional Tournament.
How The Bracket Shapes Out
The other semifinal will feature the No.1 seeded Edinboro Fighting Scots and the No.4 seeded Bloomsburg Huskies. A win for the Lakers will match them up with either of the two. The Lakers matched up with Edinboro just two weeks ago at the Westwood Racquet Club with the Fighting Scots coming away with a 5-2 win in that one. Mercyhurst was scheduled to play Bloomsburg on April 9th, however that match was canceled due to inclement weather.
