No. 6 Men’s Lacrosse Back in Action in Top-10 Showdown with Indianapolis

ERIE, Pa. – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team will be back in action tomorrow on the road at No.7 Indianapolis in what will be the third time this season that the Lakers have matched up with an opponent ranked inside the top-10 national polls.

Lakers Overview

This will be the first time that the Lakers have played since to blowout victories over Roberts Wesleyan, and Alderson Broaddus last week. The Lakers are currently on an eight game winning streak and have outscored opponents 168-67. They are also currently 5-0 against GMAC opponents and on top of the conference standings. A win next Thursday against Davis and Elkins will guarantee them their second consecutive GMAC regular season title.

Against the Greyhounds

Since 2016, the Lakers and Greyhounds have squared off against one another on five different occasions. Mercyhurst has come away with four of those five matches with a 10-9 victory when the two teams last met on March 1st of 2020.

Scouting Indianapolis

The Greyhounds will enter tomorrow's contest with a 12-1 record and the 7th ranked team in the nation. They have registered wins over No.2 Lenoir-Rhyne and No.14 Seton Hill this season and their only loss has come to No.12 Lindenwood in overtime.

UIndy is led on attack by Wyatt Auyer and Drew Billig. Auyer leads the team with 37 goals to go along with seven assists while Billig leads the team with 47 points on 19 goals and 28 assists. Austin Barnett has started all 13 games the Pioneers have played in net. He has collected 112 saves this season on a 6.62 goals allowed average.

Protector of the Crease

Mercyhurst junior goaltender Brett Olney has acted like a wall in front of the Lakers net all season long. He has made starts in all 11 of the Lakers games after only making appearances in six games during his Freshman and Sophomore campaigns.

His 8.97 goals allowed average ranks him 10th in all of division II and his .560 save percentage ranks 19th in the nation. Olney has also registered two caused turnovers and 14 ground balls this season. Additionally he does have one shot registered on the season.
