Erie, Pa.—After having their first doubleheader of the weekend canceled on Friday, the Lakers traveled to Gannon to take on the Golden Knights. The Lakers fell in a pair of defensive battles by scores of 4-3 and 1-0.
Game One (L, 4-3)
The Lakers opened the scoring in the top of the third inning after neither team struck in the first two innings. Josh Surowiec kept seeing a beach ball at the plate as he hit his seventh homer of the year, Casimer Sobaszek came around to score on the moonshot to make it 2-0.
Gannon answered back in the bottom half with a two run single and then took the lead in the fourth inning on a wild pitch.
In the top of the seventh inning, Jack Elliott tied the game at three with his third homer of the season, he has three homers in his last six games.
Gannon won in walkoff fashion in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single.
Jarrett Heilmann went 3.1 innings on the mound and struckout three in his third start of the season. Jacob Bazala went 2.2 innings out of the bullpen and struckout three while walking just one and allowing one earned run.
Game Two (L, 1-0)
John Bufford Jr. started on the mound and went 5.2 innings. He struckout a career nine batters while allowing one run on three hits in his second career start. Aiden Kelly took over in the sixth and got a flyout to close the inning.
The Lakers generated two hits in the second game with Sobaszek and Luke Jackson notching hits, Matthew Gibson and Aidan Morrison drew walks.
Last season the Lakers responded to being swept at Gannon with 4-2 and 7-2 win over the Golden Knights at home the following day. The Lakers are also 3-0 this season following a loss, they have outscored opponents 41-13 in those three games.
Gannon is scheduled to travel to Mercyhurst tomorrow to close out the weekend series, first pitch is slated for 1 PM.
