Cherry Hill, NJ—The Mercyhurst Rowing teams advanced five boats to finals on Saturday, on Sunday the Lakers won multiple medals at the Knecht Cup.
The men's varsity fours was the first boat in the water for Lakers in the Grand Finals as they turned in a time of 6:44.16 which was second behind LaSalle. They defeated George Mason by over 23 seconds, they also defeated MIT, Lafayette, and Virginia.
In the Lakers second final of the day the women's fours came in fourth with a time of 8:10.97, they were held off the podium by .06 of a second by Rhode Island. They were defeated by Lafayette and Penn State while beating Barry and Thomas Jefferson.
In the next race, the Lakers earned their first win in men's fours as they turned in a time of 6:59.21 to take the gold. Mercyhurst defeated boats from Michigan, Rhode Island, two boats from Pitt, and a boat from George Mason. The Lakers were the only non Division I team in the final.
In the women's varsity eights Grand Final the Lakers turned in a time of 6:40.37 to earn a spot on the podium by less than a full second. The Lakers defeated MIT, Villanova, and Boston University while falling to Georgetown and Drexel.
In the final race of the day in the men's varsity eights Grand Final the Lakers started in the sixth lane as the only Division II boat in the field. The Lakers turned in a time of 5:53.56 which was just over a second behind Colgate, the Lakers came in second while defeating MIT, Marist, Michigan, and Virginia.
The Lakers are back in action this week as the women host Canisius on Thursday before all three teams travel to Adrian, MI to face Adrian and Marietta next Saturday.
