Baseball Beats AB in First Game Of Weekend

Salem, W.Va.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team won their second straight game against Alderson Broaddus in their first game of the weekend by a score of 9-1.

The Lakers had six different players record hits with three of them having two hits. 

John Susnik started the scoring in the second inning with his homer of the season. AB scored their lone run in the third inning to tie the game at one in the top half of the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Troy Banks used a SAC Fly to drive in Casimer Sobaszek in from third to give the Lakers the lead.

Neither team scored again until the fifth when Josh Surowiec drove in Matthew Gibson on a two run homer, his second round tripper of the season.

In the sixth Ryan Perretti scored on a passed ball following his leadoff triple to start the frame. After six innings the Lakers were up 5-1.

Mercyhurst extended their lead once again in the eighth inning as Luke Jackson walked to drive in Surowiec with the sixth Laker run.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, Perretti put the game away with a base clearing triple to make it 9-1 Lakers.

Nathan Holt got the ball for his first start of the season. He went 4.2 innings allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five.

In the fifth Jacob Bazala took the bump, he allowed three hits while striking out four in 3.2 innings of work.  Bazala earned his second win of his freshman season.

Corey Shields took over for the final two outs, striking out both batters to close out the game.

The Lakers continue the weekend tomorrow as they take on Wheeling in the first game at 12:00 PM before playing Salem at 4:00 PM.
