Erie, Pa – The Mercyhurst Men's Lacrosse team will be back in action for the first time in two weeks tomorrow on the turf of Saxon Stadium where they will host the visiting Cardinals of Wheeling University in the teams Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener.
Laker Overview
The Lakers will enter Saturday's contest after having last week's scheduled game against Rockhurst canceled due to inclement weather across the Erie area last weekend. Their most recent game came on March 5th when
Ethan Landymore's seven goals helped lead the Lakers past Molloy College by a 22-8 score.
Landymore, who has 17 goals with three assists on the season, is one of three Lakers with thirteen or more points recorded in the teams first four games, he is joined by
Myles Hamm (16G,2A), and
Bryce Johnson (4G,9A).
Scouting Wheeling
The Cardinals have begun their 2022 schedule with a 2-5 record with wins over Felician and St. Thomas Aquinas College. This will be Wheelings second GMAC matchup of the season as they fell to Seton Hill 22-5 back on March 1st.
Sophomore Mike Andersson has been the leading charge on the offensive end for the Cardinals. His 23 points and 17 goals lead the Cardinals in those statistical categories.
On the defensive side of the ball it has been Joshua Wolford starting every game in goal for Wheeling. He has collected 91 saves on a 53.2 % save percentage so far this season.
Against the Cardinals
Dating back to 2006, the Lakers are a perfect 16-0 against Wheeling. The Cardinals closest margin of defeat came in a 11-10 loss back in 2016. Most recently, the Lakers dismantled Wheeling last year 21-2.
