West Point, N.Y.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey team never trailed as they shutout the Army Black Knights 4-0 on Friday night on the road.
How it Happened
The Lakers jumped out to the lead at the 8:37 mark of the third period. Jonathan Bendorf netted his fourth goal of the season, Devon Daniels and Gueorgui Feduolov picked up assists on the play as the Lakers scored for the first goal of the game for the second time in three games.
Two minutes later the Lakers struck once again to make it 2-0. Feduolov scored his seventh goal of the season. It was the Laker's 22nd power-play goal of the season, Carson Briere and Josh McDougall picked up assists on the power-play goal.
Mercyhurst wasn't done in the first period, Briere struck for the tenth time this season as the Lakers took a commanding 3-0 lead. Philip Waugh picked up his first career point on the play while Austin Hiedemann added his 13th assist of the season.
After the first period the Lakers were up 3-0 and Kyle McClellan had 20 saves.
The second period was also won by the Lakers as Pierce Crawford scored the lone goal of the period at the 7:26 mark of the period. Jake Beaune and Noah Kane picked up assists on the captain's fifth goal in a Laker uniform.
After the fourth Laker goal, McClellan was the star of the game. Last weekend McClellan was nearly perfect, on Friday night he was perfect.
The Laker sophomore made 20 saves in the opening period, 13 in the middle frame, and closed the game out with 14 saves.
Battle of Special Teams
The Lakers were perfect on the power play as they scored on their lone power play and scored on their only shot.
Mercyhurst gave Army three power plays and allowed just one shot on the power play.
Career Game
McClellan set a career high in saves just seven days ago as he made 43 saves against Niagara. Tonight, he made 47 saves which is also the most in Atlantic Hockey this season.
His 47 saves are the most in a game for Mercyhurst since Hank Johnson made 48 saves against Bowling Green in the second game of the season in 2020-21.
The Manchester, MO. native has made 35 plus saves in nine games this season, it was also his fifth game with 40 or more saves.
