Men's Hockey Can't Complete Sweep of Army

West Point, N.Y.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey could not complete the weekend sweep of Army as they fell to the Black Knights 5-1 on Saturday.

How it Happened

The Lakers were down early as the Black Knights opened the scoring just 34 seconds into the game. Exactly three minutes later, Army scored their second of the night to make it 2-0.

After the first 20 minutes the Lakers trailed 2-0 and were being outshot 20-12.

The second period consisted of both teams lighting the lamp. Army struck at the 5:50 mark of the period. Marko Reifenberger scored his third goal of the season while Gueorgui Feduolov added his sixth assist of the year.

Mercyhurst were still down two as the third period started. Army scored twice in the third period to make it 5-1.

The Lakers could not recover but did generate 40 shots for just the third time this season. Mercyhurst had 40 shots against Canisius on Nov. 20 in a 5-2 win and at Miami (OH) on Jan. 4 in a 5-4 overtime win.

Back-to-Back AHA Goalie of the Week?

Kyle McClellan has been one of the hottest goalies in Atlantic Hockey as he has made 30 plus saves in his last seven games. McClellan made 40 saves in his 16th game of the season.

Of those seven games five have been 35 plus save games and four games in which he's made 40 or more saves.

He now has a .918 save percentage and a 3.22 goals against average in his sophomore season.

Up Next

The Lakers return to Erie for a weekend matchup with RIT next weekend.

Mercyhurst will be on the shores of Lake Erie for the remainder of the regular season as their lone road game is a match up with the Canisius Golden Griffins on Feb. 25.
