Baseball Drops Game Two of Opening Weekend

Glenville, W.Va.—The Mercyhurst Baseball team continued the MEC vs PSAC Challenge by playing the hosts on Saturday afternoon, the Lakers fell 4-2.

How it Happened

The Lakers jumped out to a hot start in the bottom of the first inning. Matthew Gibson led off the inning with a leadoff triple. With one out in the inning Troy Banks lined out to center filed and Gibson scrambled home for the first run of the game.

With two outs in the inning Josh Surowiec homered to make it 2-0.

After the two runs in the first inning the Lakers could not generate much more offense as they didn't score another run.

Mercyhurst tallied five hits in the game with Surowiec having two hits in the loss.

On the bump, Tom Colcombe made his Laker debut and went 1.1 innings while having one strikeout and allowing no hits and one unearned run.

John Bufford Jr. threw 3.2 innings in his first outing of the season. He gave up three hits, three runs (one earned) while striking out five of the 17 batters he faced.

Nathan Holt made his first appearance of the 2022 campaign and faced seven batters and had one strikeout and three groundball outs in 1.1 innings.

Daniel Thomas was the final pitcher for the Lakers, he went 2.2 innings allowing just one hit and striking out three.
