Men's Lacrosse Set for Rematch with No. 1 Le Moyne

ERIE, PA – The Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team is slated for their second game of the week as they will take on the top ranked Le Moyne Dolphins in what will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Division II semifinal match that saw Le moyne squeak past the Lakers on their way to a national championship.

Laker Overview

The Lakers (1-1, 0-0 GMAC) will enter Saturday's neutral site contest with the Dolphins (1-0, 0-0 NE10) after earning their first win of the season against Lewis University on Monday at home. That contest saw sophomore Ethan Landymore and junior Myles Hamm combine for 11 goals to lead the Lakers past the Flyers.

In addition to Hamm and Landymore, the Lakers collected goals from Bryce Johnson, Braden McCard, Jacob Emerson, Luke Ingianni, and Todd Redman. Brett Olney started his second game in net for the Lakers against Lewis. He acted as a brick wall, stopping 16 of the 21 Flyer shots on goal.

Scouting Le Moyne

The Dolphins return two of their top four point scorers from their 2021 national championship team in Ben McCreary and Kevin Sheehan. McCreary returns for his fifth year after scoring 26 goals with two assists last season while Sheehan is coming off a year that saw him collect 20 goals with eight assists.

Le Moyne also returns goalkeeper Frank Delia who started in nine of the Dolphins 15 games. Last season Delia posted a 6.78 GAA to go along with a save percentage of .594%.

The Dolphins opened up their 2022 schedule last week against a familiar opponent to Mercyhurst in Wingate. Le Moyne took the battle of the nations two top teams by a 15-11 margin.

Against the Dolphins

The Lakers are still in search of their first win in program history against the Dolphins as Le Moyne has won all games that two schools have played. The two schools have met on three separate occasions in the NCAA Division II Tournament including the 2007 and 2013 National Championship games. Le Moyne defeated the Lakers by one goal in both of those contests.

From the X

Mercyhurst's lone preseason all-american Shawn Doran has given the Lakers an edge from the face-off circle. During the teams first two games, Doran has compiled 36 face-off wins on 49 attempts putting him at nearly 75% win rate. On Saturday he will match up against Le Moyne's Sam Kury who is 19-28 from the X this season.

May You Pass the Hamm?

Junior Myles Hamm has been a pleasant addition to the Mercyhurst attacking core. The Harvard transfer leads the team with nine goals through their first two regular season games. In his only full season played with Harvard back in 2019, Hamm ranked second on the team in goals (24), fourth in assists (10) and third in points (34).

What's Next?

After their contest with Le Moyne the Lakers will come back home to Saxon Stadium on Saturday, March 5th against Molloy College.
