LOCK HAVEN, Pa – Mercyhurst wrestling freshman Dillon Walker was chosen as the PSAC Wrestler of the Week for his performances this past week in the teams final two dual meets of the season.
The Cincinnati, Ohio native won his Friday evening bout at 174 pounds by pinning Findlay's Justin West less than two minutes into the opening period to help give the Lakers a 39-2 win over the visiting Oilers.
The following day, Walker squared off against UPJ's Brock Biddle, who checked in at No. 4 on the latest NWCA rankings at 174. Walker led after the first period, and finished the second the same way leading by a 9-6 margin.
Biddle was able to secure an escape point early in the third before Walker was forced into an extensive medical timeout. Walker gave up a takedown shortly after his return, however, he would go on to secure two more takedowns, with near-fall points awarded in the final thirty seconds to claim a gutsy 17-10 victory.
Walker and the rest of the Mercyhurst grapplers will enter postseason play next weekend at the Super Region One Championships hosted by Pitt-Johnstown.
