Erie, Pa. - With the first week of action in November coming to a close, Mercyhurst names two more PPG Athletes of the Week. Jenna Stretch of Women's Bowling put together a strong performance in the Medaille Brunswick Invite and Jorge Tallada Torres scored the lone goal of the Men's Soccer PSAC Championship to earn the pair honors for.
Stretch and the rest of Women's Bowling had a solid weekend, finishing second in the Medaille Brunswick Invite with the freshman playing a big part. Stretch finished third in the tournament overall with a total of 974 pins knocked down. Stretch's performance got better and better as the event went on with her two final games being her best with scores of 200 and 216 while averaging 194.8 pins per game.
Stretch has been one of the better bowlers up to this point in the season for the Lakers. She has an overall fill percentage of 82.4% to be tied for the second-highest on the team alongside Samantha Strebel. She is second on the team in strikes as well, breaking the century mark in her last event and now having 101. Stretch is also second in spares as well with her just six behind Strebel with 77 on the season.
Mercyhurst Women's Bowling takes some time off before their next event as they do not compete again until the Griffen Baker Classic on February 4th and 5th.
Mercyhurst Men's Soccer defeated Bloomsburg in the PSAC Championships on Sunday, November 5th, in a 1-0 game with Jorge Tallada Torres being the difference. The sophomore from Sevilla, Spain scored in the 11th minute of the contest to propel the Lakers forward. His goal was the only score of the game as the Laker's defense recorded their 16th shutout of the season on their way to claiming their first PSAC title since 2016.
Tallada Torres is tied for third on the team in goals with five alongside Lockie Fay while adding a pair of assists to his line in 2022. Tallada Torres has gotten in more of a rhythm here of late as he has scored three goals in his last seven games with him scoring one against Shepherd and Gannon in back-to-back games while also having an assist in the team's game against Shepherd.
The Lakers return to action this Saturday, November 12th, when they host Post University at 6:00 p.m. during their first taste of the NCAA DII National Tournament.
