Lakers Fall to East Stroudsburg on the Road

Box Score

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - Mercyhurst Field Hockey went on the road for the final time in 2022 and were tasked with a tough one as they faced #1 East Stroudsburg. After keeping things close in the first period, the Warriors broke through in the second on their way to a 5-0 victory.

How it Happened

Mercyhurst's defense had to work hard in the opening frame to keep things deadlocked at 0-0 as East Stroudsburg fired off nine shots in the period compared to Mercyhurst's zero. Kayla Desormeau showed why she is one of the best in the cage as she saved six shots total in the canto to continue to add to her nation-leading save total.

The Warriors were not to be denied in the second period as they ramped up the offensive intensity and put three on the board before the halftime buzzer went off. After firing off nine shots in the opening period, East Stroudsburg nearly doubles that with 17 in the second for 26 total in the first half of action. Unfortunately for the Lakers, Desormeau was not able to stop all of the shots this time around. Nicole Krozser netted the first of the trio of goals two minutes into the second period while Karlie Hall got the second in the 21st minute and Lisa Larsson made it a 3-0 game at the 27:00 mark to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.

It was more of the same in the third period with East Stroudsburg able to extend out their lead with one goal in the frame. They fired off nine shots with one from Hanna Lewis finding the back of the cage to make it a 4-0 game. The fourth and final quarter went by with the Warriors adding one more as they down the Lakers 5-0.

By the Numbers

ESU tallied 44 shots while Mercyhurst mustered two with both of theirs being on goal, coming courtesy of Katie Goodenow and Maddie Huffer, while the Warriors saw 30 be put on the cage. East Stroudsburg held the lead in corners with 15 to the Laker's four. Kayla Desormeau complied 24 saves in the game while facing 44 shots in game. Her 24 stops were the second most she has had this season with her saving 26 against West Chester on October 22nd.
