LOUISVILLE, Ky – The Mercyhurst wrestling team finished off their time at the NWCA National Dual Meet Championships on Friday, after a close loss to No. 3 McKendree in the consolation semifinals match, the Lakers fell to Fort Hays State in the seventh place dual by a 25-20 margin.
In their first match of the day, the dual came down to the last match of the meet at 285 that saw #3 Jacob Robb go up against #2 Ian Kuehl of McKendree. Kuehl squeaked by Robb with a 4-2 decision to secure the Bobcats win, by a final score of 21-15.
Eric Bartos,
Alexis Soriano, and
Luke McGonigal all picked up decision wins for the Lakers, and
Dillon Walker won his fourth bout at the duals when he pinned McKendree's Rodrick Love at the 1:00 mark.
In the bout against Fort Hays State, the Lakers earned decision victories from
Eric Bartos,
Alexis Soriano, Max Stedford, and
Jacob Robb.
Dillon Walker added a victory via pin to secure a perfect 5-0 record at the duals, however it was not enough to push the Lakers past the Tigers.
The Mercyhurst grapplers will host their first home dual meet of the 2021-22 season next Friday when they welcome East Stroudsburg to the newly renovated Mercyhurst Athletic Center, the first bout is slated for 4:00 p.m.
