Greensburg, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team fell 73-62 at Seton Hill in a Monday afternoon matchup.
How it Happened
The Lakers stormed out of the gate, utilizing a nine-point run to go up 12-4 at 4:58 in the first quarter. They would grow their lead to 10 and ultimately lead 20-10 after the first quarter ended.
Seton Hill showed some urgency in the second quarter, outscoring Mercyhurst 19-12 to cut into the lead. Emily Shopene nailed an off-balance jumper in the final second to send the Lakers to the locker room up 32-29.
Seton Hill sat in the driver's seat for most of the second half, holding a two-point lead with 2:35 left in the third quarter that became eight points heading into the final frame. The Lakers would cut the lead down to four with 8:09 left in the game, but could not get any closer.
Shopene Scores 20, Three Stuck at 9
Shopene and Seton Hill's Katie Nolan finished with 20 points to lead all scorers. Nolan finished with 15 rebounds while Shopene brought down nine boards to lead the Lakers as well. Jayde Boyd, Grace Centrulla and Nicolette Arnold all scored nine points in the effort.
