Women's Hockey Adds Another Addition to Their Recruiting Class

Erie, PA—Women's Hockey Head Coach Michael Sisti has announced that Sydney Pedersen will be join the Lakers this season as an incoming freshman. The Milestone, Saskatchewan native will come to Mercyhurst after spending the last three full seasons with the Regina Rebels of the SFMAAAHL.

"We are excited to have Sydney join our team. Sydney is a standout defenseman, and we are thrilled to see what she will accomplish over the next four years in a Mercyhurst jersey" Sisti said.

In three seasons in Regina, Peterson scored 22 goals as a defender while adding 36 more assists. Her best season came in the 2019-20 season in which she scored 15 goals and tallied 18 assists. Due to COVID-19 the Rebels did not compete in during the 2020-21 season.

Pederson is excited to join the Lakers and their storied program "I chose Mercyhurst because of its continuing success in the women's hockey program, the elite schooling and the support they provide for their student athletes!"

Pedersen will join Vanessa Upson, Sydney Wegner, Marielle Parks, Kylee Mahoney, Alyssa Kawa, Mary Sweetapple, and Hanna Zukow as freshman this season for the Lakers.
