Field Hockey Drops 1st Contest of Spring Campaign

INDIANA, Pa. – For the first time in over 500 days the Mercyhurst field hockey team took the field against some competition other than themselves as they visited Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Saturday afternoon.  Unfortunately, for the Lakers they fell by a score of 6-0 to the Crimson Hawks at Miller Stadium.

The Lakers faced a lot of pressure from corners giving up eight to IUP, while earning six themselves in the second half.  Mercyhurst allowed seven defensive corners over the first two quarters, but surrendered just one the rest of the way.

In cage for Mercyhurst was Gabriella Amico who was busy a good amount of the day making 11 saves.

Lakers Player of the Game
Junior Lizzy Laird was a force down the middle carrying the ball with great speed and confidence.  Thanks to her strong effort the Green and Blue were able to earn their second-half corners thanks to her resiliency.

Words from Coach Randolph
"Today was a beautiful day to get out and play.  While the result was not in our favor we are pleased to finally have a body of work to dissect and improve upon in the coming weeks.  Our final 15-minute period was our strongest and we plan to continue this momentum into tomorrow.

"We would like to thank IUP for hosting us today and Director of Athletics Bradley Davis along with his entire staff for allowing us to compete safely."

On Deck
Mercyhurst gets right back out on the field tomorrow when they host Frostburg State at Saxon Stadium beginning at 3pm.
