Women’s Basketball Wins on the Road in Salem

Salem, W.Va.—The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team earned their second non-conference of the season as they took down Salem University, 72-61, Wednesday night.
The Lakers got the scoring started and wound up with a 10-0 lead before the Tigers found an answer. After finishing the first 10 minutes ahead 15-8, Mercyhurst led at halftime 27-23.
They continued their momentum into the second half, adding 20 points in the third quarter before topping that mark with another 25 in the final frame.
The Lakers benefited from increased bench production, with Mercyhurst's bench producing 22 points compared to 11 from Salem's. One of the bright spots off the bench for Mercyhurst was freshman Ava Waid, whose 12 points and six rebounds were career highs for her.
Grace Centrulla led the scoring with 16 points and added nine rebounds, and Emily Shopene posted her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
