Erie, Pa.—The Mercyhurst Women's Basketball team earned their first PSAC win while celebrating their outgoing seniors in Tuesday's 52-39 win against Mansfield.
The two teams played competitively in the first quarter, ending the first 10 minutes tied 10-10, but the Lakers shut the Mansfield offense down in the second frame. The Mountaineers made just two baskets in the second quarter while Mercyhurst added 12 points to take a 22-14 lead to the locker room.
Mercyhurst stayed in the driver seat in the third period, outscoring their opponents 17-9 in the third quarter and held off a late comeback bid that saw their lead shrink to eight points before answering to end up on top 52-39.
Grace Centrulla and Jayde Boyd reached double-digit points, with Centrulla tallying 16 and Boyd recording 11. Centrulla nearly finished with a double-double as she had nine rebounds.
Before the game, the team celebrated seniors Emily Shopene, Mehan Komendarek and Emily Bauer, as well as team manager Cerenity Chambers.
Shopene finished with seven points and nine rebounds, while Komendarek led the Lakers with 11 rebounds and added a pair of points as well.
