Worcester, Mass.—The Mercyhurst Men's Hockey team picked up a point tonight as they fell in overtime to Holy Cross 5-4. Mercyhurst took 4 of 6 points this weekend and are tied for first place in the AHA.
How it Happened
Neither team scored in the opening frame, and shots were just about even with the Lakers have the edge 9-8.
6:01 into the middle frame, Pierce Crawford scored his first goal as a Laker. Cade Townend and Steven Ipri tallied assists on the play as the Lakers took the lead.
Just over two minutes later the Crusaders got on the board to tie the game at one.
At the 17:41 mark Mickey Burns picked a good time to score his first goal as a Laker. His tally gave the Lakers the lead as Geoff Kitt and Paul Maust each earned assists on the play.
On the power play with just under five second remaining in the second period the Lakers took the goal lead thanks to Austin Heidemann. Jonathan Bendorf and Dante Sheriff picked up assists on the Lakers' ninth power-play goal of the season.
4:26 into the third Holy Cross got one back to make it a 3-2 game.
With under seven minutes remaining in regulation Paul Maust scored his second goal of the year to give the Lakers their two goal lead back, Burns and Devon Daniels received the assists on the play.
Holy Cross scored with 5:25 remaining to make it 4-3 and then once against at the 19:32 mark to tie the game. Just 24 seconds into the extra frame, Holy Cross beat Kyle McClellan for the game winner.
McClellan made 38 saves in the loss, he now has 35+ saves in four three of the five games he's started this season.
Battle of Special Teams
The Lakers went 1/3 on the power play while they tallied five shots. The Crusaders scored twice on their four attempts and had 11 shots.

The Lakers start a home and home series with Canisius on Friday at the Mercyhurst Ice Center. Mercyhurst then travels to Buffalo to face the Golden Griffs at HarborCenter on Saturday night.
