Erie, Pa --- The Mercyhurst University Field Hockey Team will be back this week to play two games on the turf at Saxon Stadium. The Lakers will first square off with Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. They will conclude their regular season schedule on Saturday at 1:00 p.m when the Lakers welcome Bloomsburg University to Mercyhurst's campus. The team will be honoring Lizzy Laird, Alexandria Shumsky, Alexis Lovewell, Raylynn Chraston, and Libby Jones at the beginning of the game as the departing Seniors.
The Games
This will be the second time this year that IUP and the Lakers have played one another, the Crimson Hawks won the first contest 4-0. This will be the 19th time that the two programs have played in their histories, both teams have won eight times as this match will decide who has bragging rights going into next season.
Mercyhurst and Bloomsburg have played each other 14 times since the 2008 season. Bloomsburg has won all of the contests. The last time the two schools met was back in early November of 2019 when Bloomsburg squeaked by in that one 1-0.
Scouting IUP
The Crimson Hawks will enter Wednesday's contest with a 9-5 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play. Blaise Cugini leads the IUP attack, she has mustered nine goals and three assists to pace the Crimson Hawks in scoring this year.
Scouting Bloomsburg
Bloomsburg currently holds a 7-9 overall record and a 1-7 conference mark; they have notable wins over New Haven and Mansfield. Alicia Carr leads the team in points, she has tallied eight goals and one assist to lead the Huskies.Â
